The collision occurred as Franklin’s vehicle (Vehicle 1) was traveling westbound on RT-E, while another vehicle (Vehicle 2) was heading eastbound. Vehicle 1 crossed the center line, driving westbound in the eastbound lane. In an attempt to avoid a collision, the driver of Vehicle 2 swerved to the left. The passenger sides of both vehicles subsequently collided. After the impact, Vehicle 2 veered off the north side of the road and came to a stop, facing north. Meanwhile, Vehicle 1 spun as it went off the south side of the road, coming to a halt facing east. Upon stopping, Vehicle 1 caught fire. Assistance was provided by the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office, Mercer County Ambulance , Mercer County Fire, and Life Flight Eagle .

Injuries

Rachel L Franklin sustained severe injuries. She was airlifted by Lifeflight Eagle to St. Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City .

Vehicle Damage
