22-year-old Rayala Vasavi from Overland Park, Kansas, was injured in a collision that occurred on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at 9:00 AM in Boone County, Missouri. The incident took place on I-70 Eastbound at the 120-mile marker, where Vasavi was a passenger in one of the vehicles involved.
The police report provides the following description of the crash:
Four vehicles were traveling on I-70 in two lanes. In the passing lane, Vehicle 1 was behind Vehicle 2, and Vehicle 4 was ahead of Vehicle 2. In the right lane, Vehicle 3 was parallel to Vehicle 2, and Vehicle 5 was in front of Vehicle 3. An unrelated incident caused traffic ahead to stop, including Vehicles 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6, which remained stationary for about 30 seconds. Driver 1, however, failed to notice the halted traffic. This resulted in the front of Vehicle 1 colliding with the rear of Vehicle 2. Vehicle 1 then skidded from the left lane into the right lane, hitting the rear of Vehicle 3. Subsequently, Vehicle 1 traveled off the roadway and came to rest partially blocking the right lane. The impact propelled Vehicle 2 into the rear of Vehicle 4 and Vehicle 3 into the rear of Vehicle 5. Vehicle 6, which was in the right lane, was hit by airborne debris, although it remains unclear from which vehicle the debris originated.
