In the incident, Etzler was a passenger. The police reported the sequence of events as follows:
The collision occurred as vehicle #1 was heading south on RT K, while vehicle #2 was heading north on the same route. The driver of vehicle #1 failed to navigate a curve in the road properly, causing his vehicle to cross the center of the road and veer into the northbound lane. To avoid a collision, the driver of vehicle #2 swerved, crossing the center of the road into the southbound lane. However, vehicle #1 returned to the southbound lane and struck vehicle #2 at the front passenger-side tire. After the impact, vehicle #1 came to a halt in the southbound lane, upright and facing south. Vehicle #2 veered off the west side of the road and flipped over. It struck a tree and came to rest upside down, facing north. Sgt. D.R. Reuter (622) and the Andrew County Sheriff’s Office provided assistance at the scene.
Injuries
Karen S Etzler sustained minor injuries. She was transported by Andrew County EMS to Mosaic Life Care .
Vehicle Damage
Etzler was driving the second vehicle, a 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe. According to the police, the Hyundai Santa Fe sustained significant damage. The vehicle was removed from the scene by Blue Knight Towing .
