The first vehicle, a flatbed style truck-tractor hauling an oil derrick, was driven by Shawn P. Kinder and was heading southbound on K23 Highway. While Kinder was attempting to make a right-hand turn to enter a ditch for more clearance, the oil derrick came into contact with the live power lines.
